Yesterday I was thinking about why we are so prone to repeat the patterns (and mistakes) of the past. This turned into my daily doodle (still a bit rough, but hopefully you’ll get the idea):
It’s easy to keep going through that minor modification loop, which preserves the status quo and our role in it. It’s a comfort blanket for managers.
– and it is a big but – there are points when we have to muster the courage to make a significant change. How do you know when the time is right? You don’t. However, if your clear about your purpose and aware of your environment, you’ll get a good sense of it. Of course, if your head is stuck in the process book of management, you will never see it coming, until it’s too late.
Seth Godin had something to say about this today.
