Hootenanny highlights

Jools Holland’s Annual Hootenanny lived up to expectations again this year.  It included stellar performances from Ruby Turner and the Rhythm and Blues Orchestra (as usual).

I loved Caro Emerald (which was not at all surprising) performing ‘A night like this’ and  especially Noel Coward’s ‘Mad about the boy’.

I enjoyed the somewhat quirky style of Pokey Lafarge and the South City Three and the Ramones-like energy of The Vaccines (especially Wreckin’ Bar).

I was more than a little bit surprised by the fine performance from Jessie J.  But, in my opinion, the star of the show (and a new discovery for me) was Gregory Porter – what a great voice (pity about his dress sense!)
