What matters most

Another thought from the Buddha saying that I came across yesterday:

I wonder how often we ask ourselves at the start of the day, “What matters most?”

  • Do we pause to reflect on this, before rushing headlong into the day’s activity?
  • Do we have a way of evaluation the competing claims on our time?
  • If we do pause to decide, do we think holistically – work, family, spirit, health, leisure…?
  • Do we always (unthinkingly) prioritise the same task/activity/theme?

Given that we (mainly) have an opportunity to live each day in a new way, it would be beneficial to build this question into a daily routine.
