The importance of ‘R&R’

young-422332_1280‘R&R’ is military shorthand for rest and recreation. It can also stand for ‘rest and relaxation’; or ‘rest and recuperation’. In my place of work it can refer to funds for the ‘repair and renewal’ of assets – which fits this entry quite well.

I’ve just returned to work after a short holiday. I feel relaxed, refreshed and re-energised. As I was getting ready to re-enter work-land, I reminded myself that the end of the holiday shouldn’t mean the end of R&R.

It’s important to:

Recover regularly (e.g. between meetings).
Rest daily.
Recreate weekly.
Recharge occasionally.

Looking after yourself should be one of your top priorities. The question is: how intentional are you about it?
